Providing the Complete Solution. Not just the Product.
The Details: A large global waste management company required a continuous emissions monitoring system (CEMS) for multiple gases which would be installed to measure their stack emissions in two incineration facilities in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia.
They selected the gas analyser company who provided the details of the analyser and its’ measurement capability.
The gases to be measured included carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, propane, ammonia, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen fluoride and hydrogen as carrier gas.
The Challenge: Measurement of these gases are strictly controlled under the NSW EPA regulations, so accurate calibration gases are critical in maintaining the specifications of the gas analyser.
When the customer started to search for calibration gas, they were told that “G size” cylinders would be required.
That was the only solution they obtained, until they came to CAC GAS.
The Inquiry: With years of experience in gas measurement with analyser and instrument companies, CAC GAS technical staff jumped in to find out more information.
- What gases are being measured?
- How often will the analyser be calibrated to meet EPA standards?
- How often will they challenge test the instrument?
- What is the flow required to test each sensor?
- Is it different from one sensor type to the next?
- What is the total volume of gas consumed for each calibration?
- What is the volume of gas to be consumed annually?
- What is the shelf life of each gas mixture?
- What regulators, tubing, fittings are required? What material is needed?
- Do the cylinders require protection? Is a gas cage required?
- Is there concern having pure hydrogen on site as the carrier gas?
- Who is responsible for calibrating the analyser? Do they require training?
- Who is responsible for making sure the gas mixtures are replaced, as required?
- Do you really need “G size” cylinders?
Once all the information was obtained, the CAC GAS technical team came back with a solution, not just a product.
The Gas Mixture Solution:
- Individual cylinders of NO2, CO2, NH3,HCL,HF, a multi component mixture of CO/NO/SO2 each in the smallest cylinder available because the total gas volume annually was only 88 litres/ year. For each mixture CAC technicians calculated the years of service for each gas mixture which ranged from 1 to 8 years
- Multi-gas mixture of O2/Propane in our largest cylinder (equivalent to a “G” size cylinder as the gas volume was 1,050 litres/year. With a cylinder of 6,994 litres this provided the customer 6.6 years of gas volume
CAC GAS provided the customer with the appropriate cylinder sizes which maximized the efficiency of the gas mixture and minimized cost to the customer.
We eliminated the hydrogen gas concern and partnered with Peak Corporation providing a Precision hydrogen SL gas generator for the customers carrier gas requirement. This compact hydrogen generator eliminates any explosive hazard.
The Regulator Solution:
The Micro 300 precision regulator which has been designed specifically for analyser applications. With a small internal volume the regulator reduces gas wastage and maximizes accuracy of the measuring system. In addition to the Micro 300 we provided all stainless tubing, fittings and gas cage to complete the gas control system.
The Service Solution:
To finalize our solution CAC GAS provided a complete package to monitor, maintain and control gas mixtures, de-ionised water and other consumables in an annual service contract.
The Result:
Maximizing efficiency, minimizing cost, and eliminating downtime provides the customer with a complete and beneficial solution from CAC GAS.
